Background: I got involved in Amateur Radio while I was Active Duty Air Force, stationed at Altus AFB, Oklahoma. I was interested in severe weather, and I was frequently chasing severe weather in the area. One day, Lloyd Colston (KC5FM) the City of Altus Emergency Manager saw my reports and called me directly asking me to come down and see the EOC. There I met some of the best group of Elmers and friends around. Along with Lloyd, Dale Town (N5VX), Mart Dennis (W5KRG), Steve Grayson (KE5BPL) and David Gallegos (AF5IB) taught me everything I needed to know about ham radio. Within weeks I had my Technician Class ticket, and I was hooked. A few months later I upgraded to General and began building my HF station. My first HF station was a Kenwood TS-850SAT that I absolutely loved! A couple years later, I got out of the Air Force, left behind my girlfriend and moved to Utah looking for work. Work was slow, and I was forced to sell my station. I moved to Illinois to rekindle the relationship with the girlfriend I had left in Oklahoma (who had since moved to Illinois.) This worked out well because she is no longer my girlfriend, but has since upgraded to Bride status. I bought my FT-1000MP Mark V in August 2012 and am once again hooked on HF operating. I love DX, I love Rag-chew, I love Contests, I love Digital, you name it!
In January 2013 I got the opportunity to join up with the amazing team at QRZ.com as a full-time engineering staff member. I will be working closely with QRZ's President/Founder, Fred Lloyd, AA7BQ, and QRZ's Business Manager, Jaime Jeffries, KF7WIS, as an IT Engineer performing server maintenance and software development. I'm very excited to help make this place better for all of us!
In May 2013 Emily and I bought a home in Farmington Utah, and moved here to be closer to my family. We love the Salt Lake City Area and are enjoying every moment. (I still need to get my antennas up!)
The picture above is me while deployed to an undisclosed location in Africa circa 2007. In the picture I am operating a Harris PRC-117 Falcon II VHF/UHF SATCOM radio.
The picture below is my dungeon/office.
If you hear me calling CQ, I'd love to talk to you! Yes You, give me a holler!
I look forward to talking with you on the air!
