Sunset at QTH east of Ft. Collins, CO

Operating position #2.

Tuners, scope and remote control head for 160 meter L network. (Rotor controllers are now Green Heron)

Licensed in 1961 with novice license WN8ADB at age 14 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Upgraded to general class about two months later as WA8ADB. Operated as portable Zero in mid-70s out of Colorado. Became WB0JBP in late 70s or early 80s. Was briefly KC0ZV, advanced class. Became NC0B, extra class, around 1988.

Founded Sherwood Engineering in 1974, offering Drake upgrades. Started testing transceivers in 1976, which now total over 100. Data now available on the web at http://www.sherweng.com/table.html

The shack picture is of operating position #1 which is an IC-781 and an Alpha 99, Ops #2 is a Kenwood TS-990S and whatever rig I am evaluating, driving an Alpha 89. Ops #3 is my backup HF station and 6 meters with an Icom 756 Pro III or an IC-7300 driving an Acom 1000. Most of my operation is at my QTH east of Ft. Collins, CO. I have wire antennas for 160, 75, 40, & 30 meters. 40 - 2 meters are covered with 11 mono-band yagis on the 6 towers. All but one of the HF yagis are old-fashoned Hy-gain LJ-series that are reliable and easily trammed into place with only two people and some rope!

After losing my Hy-gain 402BA in a wind storm two years ago, it has finally been replaced by a JK Antennas 402 coil-loaded two-element 40-meter yagi.

The Johnson Matchbox-tuned 40-meter center-fed extended double zepp (EDZ) is also used on 75. The 160 meter Marconi T (top-loaded vertical) is matched with a remotely-tuned L network at the base of the vertical, allows coverage from 1.8 MHz to 2.0 MHz. The 3-element 12 meter monobander at 80 feet which is mounted 10 feet above the JK Antennas 2-element 40-meter yagi. The 2-meter yagi is mounted 5 feet above the 15-meter 155CA.

Yagi antennas: JK 402 @ 70 feet, 204BA @ 70 feet, 203BA @ 40 feet, 173BA @ 60 feet, 153BA @ 68 feet, 155CA @ 70 feet, 123BA @ 80 feet, 103BA @ 60 feet, 105CA @ 67 feet, Ariane Arrays 5-element 6 meter @ 50 feet, and finally a Cushcraft 4-element 2-meter 124WB @ 75 feet. All yagis are fed with either 7/8ths or 1/2 inch hardline.

Wire antennas: 160 meter T antenna @ 60 feet, 40 meter E/W EDZ at 65 feet, 40-meter N/S 2-half waves in phase at 60 feet, and finally a 30 meter dipole @ 55 feet.
